Blogger Shows a Public Link Above the Blog Name: Is the Dashboard Changing?
I noticed something interesting while opening the Blogger dashboard. Above the blog name, a Public label appears alongside a globe icon and a right-facing arrow.
At first glance, it looks like a small interface detail. But for bloggers who open the dashboard almost every day to write posts, manage themes, and check their content, even a minor change like this can catch their attention.
Is Blogger updating its dashboard interface? Or is Google displaying access to a public blog in a different way?
I have not found an official announcement specifically explaining this change. Still, the interface shown in the screenshot raises a few interesting questions.
A Public Link Appears Above the Blog Name
In the dashboard view I observed, the word Public appears above the blog name, accompanied by a globe icon and a right-facing arrow. Below it, the blog name is displayed alongside the + NEW POST button.
The placement makes the Public label quite noticeable. For users who are more accustomed to seeing the blog name and the new-post button, the layout may look different from what they remember.
More importantly, the label appears to be a selectable navigation element rather than plain text. If it functions as a link, it could provide a shortcut to the public version of the blog.
However, its exact behavior still needs to be verified by interacting with the dashboard. A screenshot alone cannot establish whether the element has just been introduced or was already part of the existing interface.
Is This the Latest Blogger Update?
The appearance of this element raises the possibility that Blogger is adjusting its dashboard interface. It could be a visual change being rolled out gradually, but that possibility has not been confirmed.
As of this article's publication, I have not found an official Google announcement specifically confirming the addition of a Public link above the blog name in the Blogger dashboard.
For that reason, it is more accurate to describe this as an observed interface change rather than a newly announced official feature.
Blogger already provides documentation covering blog settings, including reader access, search-engine visibility, and blog management. You can review Blogger's official settings guide to learn more about these options.
What Does the Public Label Mean?
In general, the term Public relates to public access. In Blogger's settings, a public blog can be read by anyone on the web.
However, the reader-access setting and the Public element displayed in the dashboard are not necessarily the same thing. They relate to the concept of public access, but the screenshot does not establish exactly what happens when the element is clicked.
To find out, click the Public label and observe the result. If the blog opens directly, the element may serve as a shortcut to its public-facing page. If another menu appears, its function may be different.
Is Blogger Redesigning Its Dashboard?
There is not enough evidence to conclude that Blogger is redesigning the entire dashboard based on this single interface observation.
Even so, small interface changes are worth watching, especially for people who rely on Blogger as their everyday publishing platform.
The dashboard is the starting point for managing content. Changes to buttons, labels, or navigation can affect how users find the tools they need, although they do not necessarily indicate the launch of a new feature.
Blogger users have also been following other product developments. One example is this report about the Google Maps Widget in Blogger, which covers a separate feature-related development rather than this dashboard observation.
Could This Affect Blog SEO?
At this point, there is no sufficient evidence to suggest that the Public link directly affects Google rankings, crawling, or article indexing.
If the element simply provides a shortcut to the blog, its primary purpose would be navigation convenience for the blog owner. Public reader access and search-engine visibility remain separate considerations.
There is no reason to change your robots.txt file, sitemap, or theme simply because this element appears in the dashboard.
Final Thoughts: A Small Change Worth Watching
The appearance of a Public label above the blog name in the Blogger dashboard is worth noticing, particularly if the layout looks different from what you are used to.
However, without official confirmation from Google, we cannot yet determine whether this is a new feature, a design change being tested, or another dashboard interface adjustment.
For now, I see it as an observed interface difference that deserves further attention. If you notice the same Public link, it would be interesting to compare its appearance and see what happens when you click it.
What about your Blogger dashboard? Has the Public link appeared above your blog name, or does your interface still look the same?
